ROLE OF MEDIA IN DELHI COMMONWEALTH

GAMES 2010

During the last two years, we have been hearing through our active media that no deadlines are being met and we are miles away from the games to be held as per the curriculum.  Today, the propaganda revealed by the media has focused our attention upon the callous attitude of the agencies involved and made us believe that it is not a myth but based on certain facts.

The Three core values adopted by the Commonwealth Games movement are Humanity, Equality and Destiny. In the forthcoming commonwealth games slated to be held in Delhi in Oct. 2010, we do not know the fate of Humanity & Equality but Of course the fate of Games lies on its DESTINY. This has been very elaborately flaunted by the Media.

The main Objective formulated and adopted by the Games Body was “To Conduct XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi in a manner that would encourage sports development and physical recreation and promote the shared values of integrity, fair play, competence, team work, commitment to excellence, respect for gender equality and tolerance including the fight against the use of drugs and unhealthy or performance enhancing substance.” But the main part of the objective (integrity, fair play, competence, team work, commitment to excellence,) seems to be missing from the scene. This has very aptly been exhibited & exposed by the media in recent days.

It was the media that jolted out the authorities from their deep sleep and made them crawl out from their slumber and start managing their affairs a bit seriously. Now, that all the concerned agencies have woken up and are on their feet, we can hope that the new deadlines given by our chief minister Smt. Sheila Dixit would be met and the games indeed would happen as scheduled.

It is the Media, that has made this possible.  While thanking the media for the role it has performed in bringing the things on place in time, we shall  expect another positive role by them and that is helping the image of India emerge confidently competent in the eyes of  the whole world that is gazing at the forthcoming CWGames.  After all – Is this not a question of our National Esteem and prestige?
